Parasolid vs STEP

Parasolid (X_T / X_B) and STEP both carry precise solid geometry, but they serve different goals. Parasolid is kernel-native and excels between Parasolid-based systems, while STEP is the universal neutral format any CAD can open.

Parasolid: kernel-native

Cleanest transfers between NX, SolidWorks and Solid Edge.

STEP: universal

Openable by virtually every CAD system, ideal for broad sharing.

Pick by recipient

Use Parasolid for Parasolid-kernel targets, STEP for everything else.

When to choose each

Choose Parasolid (X_T / X_B) when both sides use Parasolid-based CAD and you want the cleanest possible solid transfer.

Choose STEP when the recipient’s system is unknown or varied, or for long-term neutral archiving.

Converting between them

Convert STEP to Parasolid to feed a Parasolid-kernel system, or Parasolid to STEP for universal distribution.

Both directions preserve precise solid geometry.
